Emerald Palm (aka Zamioculcas Zenzi)

  • Location:

I am a tropical perennial plant native to eastern Africa, Kenya and South Africa.
  • Looks:

I have a chunky stem and thick waxy leaves that grow in pairs from about half way up the stem.
  • Height:

I will reach about 20" in height
  • Environment:

I can survive long periods of drought and low light.
  • Flowers:

I can flower when in my native habitat, often the flowers are missed as they grow at the base of the stem.
  • Grooming:

Pull off dead leaves and re-pot when I burst out of my container.
  • Life Span:

I have extremely high water content in my leaves, they can survive for up to 6 months.
  • Feeding:

    Don't overwater me.
  • Fact:

I have pronounced air purifying qualities and can remove benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene from the indoor environment. Although there are many scare stories about me, I am also used in traditional medicine and it is safe to say my toxicity is over stressed.
