House Plant

Brazilian Angel Wing (aka Begoniaceae)

  • Location:

I am native to moist subtropical and tropical climates. I personally originate in a hybridization made by a California plant breeder in 1926.
  • Looks:

My name comes from my beautiful wing shaped leaves which are covered in a red fur. I have a snazzy bright green vein running down my leaves.
  • Height:

I am approx 21cm high in my pot.
  • Environment:

Keep me well watered but don't let me stand in water. Do not mist my leaves as the water collects on the small hairs and rots tiny spots. I will burn if left for long periods in direct sunlight. I like bright shade!
  • Flowers:

I produce blooms that range in colors from red and pink to white. My flowers are edible.
  • Grooming:

    Prune off dead leaves.
  • Life Span:

I can live and look great a long time.
  • Feeding:

Go easy on the fertiliser, apply it very dilute.
  • Fact:

I am a cross between a Begonia aconitifolia and B. coccinea.
