House Plant

Dragon Tree (aka Dracaena marginata (magenta))

  • Location:

I originate in Madagascar and other Indian ocean islands.
  • Looks:

I have a tree-like form with a bushy top knot of deep red lance shaped leaves.
  • Height:

In the wild I can grow to 15ft high but in the home I will probably reach heights of around 3-6ft.
  • Environment:

I like strong indirect light, sometimes I can withstand low light conditions, but my leaves may grow a bit thinner. I don't like drafts or chages in temperature.
  • Flowers:

My tree shape and foliage is my best feature.
  • Grooming:

If I start to outgrow my space you can just cut my stem. I will look odd for a while but will quickly sprout new shoots.
  • Life Span:

I can live a long time if looked after properly.
  • Feeding:

Yellowing leaves could indicate overwatering or poor drainage. It might also just be the normal process of old leaves dying off before new ones grow.
  • Fact:

I am a member of the asparagus family!
