House Plant

Elephant's Ears (aka Alocasia zebrina ‘Reticulata’)

  • Location:

I am native to the Philippines.
  • Looks:

I have thick zebra striped stems and flat arrow shaped leaves.
  • Height:

I reach about 1M in height and the same kind of spread.
  • Environment:

I like very bright, but indirect light. Always allow the top 2-3" of my soil to dry out before re-watering. I thrive in a humid environment.
  • Flowers:

My flowers are insignificant, but with a patterned stem like this, who cares?
  • Grooming:

Quickly remove any yellowing leaves, cut clean across the stem leaving about 2cm above the soil.
  • Life Span:

I can become dormant from late Autumn and Winter.
  • Feeding:

Give me an all purpose liquid fertiliser, at half recommended strength from March to September, don't feed me during the Autumn and Winter.
  • Fact:

I am poisonous to pets and an irritant to humans, especially the material at the base of my stems.
