English Lavender (aka Lavandula angustifolia )

  • Location:

    I am native to the Old World and I'm found from Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, Europe across to northern and eastern Africa, and the Mediterranean, southwest Asia to southeast India.
  • Looks:

    I have the characteristic silver-grey aromatic leaves and masses of spikes of fragrant purple-blue flowers in summer.
  • Height:

    I grow to a height and spread of half a meter.
  • Environment:

    Plant me in full sun in a warm position. I am excellent for a pot or container on a sunny patio or balcony.
  • Flowers:

    I have the classic purple flowers on spikes about my foliage.
  • Grooming:

    Cut back my flower stems after flowering to encourage new growth.
  • Life Span:

    I am a long living vigorous plant. It takes me 2-5 years to reach maturity.
  • Feeding:

    I am a drought tolerant plant, perfect for hot, dry situations.
  • Fact:

    I am very attractive to bees and butterflies and good for cutting.
