House Plant

Fabian Aralia (aka Polyscias Aralia)

  • Location:

I originate on the islands of Polynesia as well as India and South America.
  • Looks:

I have a shrubby trunk with thinner shoots carrying masses of circular leaves.
  • Height:

As a container plant I can reach 3 to 4 feet tall.
  • Environment:

I like to have about half a day of sun on my leaves. But I like the warm so must not be up against a cold winter window or my leaves will drop. Mist me often, up to 3 times a day!
  • Flowers:

I have plumes of small white flowers in the wild, but may not flower in a pot.
  • Grooming:

Remove the suckers that form on my main trunk, if you want upward growth.
  • Life Span:

I can live up to 10 years or more.
  • Feeding:

I have only a few roots so I need minimal watering. Make sure the water runs away as I cannot sit in water. Only water me when my soil has had a chance to dry out. One good solution is to sit the plastic pot on some pebbles inside the ceramic pot, this allows the water to drain. You can give me dilute fertiliser once a week from early Spring to late Autumn.
  • Fact:

I will need to be re potted when my roots raise out of the soil. But I am also toxic to pets and children. Don't eat me.
