Polka Dot Begonia (aka Begonia Maculata ‘Wightii’)

  • Location:

    I originate in Brazil.
  • Looks:

I have articulated stems with large blade shaped, green leaves, covered in white polka dots. The underside of my leaves are a deep red.
  • Height:

I start small but can eventually grow to 2 Meters in height.
  • Environment:

I like warm and humid conditions, so a light bathroom would be perfect. Otherwise keep me around other plants to increase the humidity. I need lots of light but avoid direct sunlight, which will burn my leaves.
  • Flowers:

I will reward you with heavy, white or red flowers in late Winter or Spring.
  • Grooming:

I can be a prolific grower so a trim may be necessary in the Spring.
  • Life Span:

I can be a bit demanding to look after, but once you have it right I will reward you by lasting for years.
  • Feeding:

Keep me moist at all times but please don't let me sit in water, I am very succeptible to root rot.
  • Fact:

Apparently Christian Louboutin took inspiration from the Begonia for his trademark red-soled shoes. I am toxic to pets.
