House Plant

Ponytail Palm, Elephant's Foot (aka Beaucarnea Recurvata)

  • Location:

    I come from eastern Mexico.
  • Looks:

I have a tapering bulbous trunk from which I grow rosettes of long green leaves.
  • Height:

I am a very slow grower although I have reached 30ft in the wild!
  • Environment:

I love lots of light, especially sunshine but I can withstand lower light too. Keep me away from cold draughts.
  • Flowers:

I can flower, but you will have to wait a good 30 years to see it!
  • Grooming:

Snip off any ends that go dark.
  • Life Span:

Decades! You won't get rid of me easily.
  • Feeding:

I'm drought-resistant but like water every 2-3 weeks. Please don't overwater me as I can get root rot. You can add some fertiliser to my soil in Spring or Summer but don't fuss with me.
  • Fact:

I am not a palm but in fact a succulent and keep water reserves in my trunk.
