House Plant

Schumi red (aka Peperomia caperata )

  • Location:

I originate in tropical America, Brazil and Mexico
  • Looks:

I am a compact plant with short stems covered by heart-shaped, deeply ridged, red leaves.
  • Height:

    Height 20cm
  • Environment:

I'm great for pots, dish garden or terrarium, but make sure not to over water me as my leaves may wilt. I don't like deep shade or strong sunlight, so somewhere in between suits me best.
  • Flowers:

I produce unusual flower spikes that look like rats tails
  • Grooming:

Pick of discoloured leaves and pinch off dead flower stems
  • Life Span:

I am long lived, but you can prolong my life by taking leaf cuttings in the Spring
  • Feeding:

I like air around my roots so a well draining, sandy soil works best. I like humid conditions.
  • Fact:

I thrive under indoor grow lights, making me a good choice for an office plant.
